British food fortnight comes to Queen Marys Hospital
The ARAMARK Healthcare team at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup made a double impact on this year’s British Food Fortnight celebrations.
Kelly Robson, the hospital’s Retail Manager went to a local Rainbows (or mini Brownies) group and helped to spread the word about British produce and brands.
Kelly went along to their regular group night and let the children, who are aged between five and eight, try to guess the names of the fruit and vegetables and taste them. She also had a map of the UK labelled with where the British brands are produced or sourced.
To round off the session Kelly invited a little volunteer to help her make everyone berry and apple smoothies, which proved a popular choice.
During the summer, 40 volunteers from local schools had given up their time to work in the hospital, and as part of British Food Fortnight events they attended a presentation on organic food grown on a local allotment. ‘All the produce on display was grown by a member of the kitchen team at Queen Mary’s, who explained how you can grown different produce alongside each other to complement each other and prevent diseases,’ says General Manager Maureen Forrester.
